She has rebelled, she has obeyed, she has listened, she has fought, and she has done nothing. She has honored her family, and she has damaged that honor as well. Yet the two things that remain constant are her unwavering self-confidence, and the fact that she is her parents pride and joy. It didn’t matter to her that she was raised in a prestigious household, she wanted to be sure she had earned her families name. Raven was quiet as a child, and remains on the introverted side to this day. Maybe it was because she mainly watched her older brother when they were kids, or maybe it was because she always erred on the side of the quiet, obedient daughter. It certainly isn’t something to be mistaken for shyness or some such, she just like to observe first, and then act. She likes to get a feel for the “land” so to speak. After all, no one likes a fool who rushes head first into a situation. When she came into her adolescent years, the people she began to hang with weren’t quite the types that her parents necessarily approved of. It wasn’t a thing of social status, it was a matter of their choices. She grew to be more headstrong and independent because of the things she heard from them, and the things she saw. Her family never fell into the trap that some high-class people might. The trap that bad things never really happen, or that they didn’t see them. Perhaps it was with these people that she truly discovered how the world could work rather than some idealized dream world. Being from Oxford, she did attend the school for college, her intelligence excelling as she explored her alchemist abilities. It made her family most proud to see that she actually held such talents. At the same time it alienated her, just like her ability to excel and anything she tried. She made some dumb decisions, and she paid for it. She lost friends, she disgraced her family once. And only once. After that, she said, “Never again.” She joined the military once she was done school despite her parents hesitancy upon the subject. And there she learned a structured discipline, and both physical and mental strength that she didn’t know she could reach. Her self-confidence had already been firm, but now it was solidified to the point that nothing could shake it. The more she experienced, the better she became. She was competent, efficient, adaptable, and a natural leader. She remembers all she learned as she grew up, but now it was blended with the strength of a soldier. She could be the demure, poised, and graceful daughter of the Armstrong family. But she could also be a strong, strict, harsh, and strong commander. Love, loyalty, friendship…. She had seen so many sides to them all that she let them come and go as they needed to. Some part of her is a hopeless romantic, but she doesn’t dare let herself hold any childish thoughts of finding her true love. She holds her friends close, but at a distance all the same. She knows the danger that could be brought upon them should she stay too close. That, and would they still accept her otherwise? She wasn’t proud of everything she had done in her life, and some would make people uncomfortable. Loyalty… She had seen betrayal, she had felt its sting. But she had also seen the fierceness that arose when it came to defending something or someone. Due to having such a strict code from the military, and the expectations from her household, its like she doesn't really know how to truly relax anymore. She's always either wearing one mask, or the other. The soldier, or the perfect daughter of the Armstrong household. Its not even because its really demanded of her, it is what she believes must be done. So the "true" Raven has become lost and entangled, and she doesn't know what to do about it. So she leaves it be, and keeps going. Is it beautiful? Is it plain? Do you take notice in the smallest of details, or does is it the whole picture that matters most? Short, blue hair with white bangs that is so often spiked out. Or maybe you notice the cold, steely look in those golden eyes that can shock you if you aren’t expecting them. They speak volumes, and yet they say nothing all at once. The smooth tan skin would denote a busy life-style that might require one to go outside often. The fact that the woman before you stands at 5’6” may intimidate you, or be attractive if your tastes are as such. Her body may seem delicate and slim, but it is all lean muscle that would snap your neck easily should the need arise. You can never judge a person by just one look. Not fully. Even a pretty face could hide a warrior beneath it. Her walk is both powerful and graceful, rigid yet smooth. It is that of a dancer, and a soldier. She does not seem to give any judgment should she look upon you, her gaze is merely calm and impassive. Only in certain instances does she actually choose to allow herself to express what she is thinking, or feeling. On rare occasions do such things appear of their own volition. When she isn't in her fighting gear, the clothing of choice is something comfortable and well... relaxed. Simple pants with a slight flare at the bottom, boots that reach up to her calves, and a shirt of some sort. The shirt may be of a certain style such as a tank top, or maybe it's more elegant than that. Like a no-sleeve, zip-up blouse with a small collar that is a V-neck. Oh, and of course there is a necklace peeking out at her collar bone to add the perfect accent. The choice of color? Black. Or maybe something in the darker tones of the various colors of the spectrum. Raven’s life was no exception. She is the second oldest of four kids, but they never really competed with each other for anything, especially not her older brother Kabuto. The two eldest always just seemed to understand things, and are certainly the most level-headed of the siblings. They stuck together for the most part while they were younger. Since Kabuto is two years older than her, she used to watch him do homework, and occasionally help him with it much to their amusement. Vincent is Raven’s younger brother, and he always more reclusive than the rest. He could never seem to tell if he wanted to try to outshine his older siblings, or if he just wanted to remain on the back burner as he used to say. She knows he feels awkward as the middle child, but at the same time he’s only 17. He’ll figure things out for himself. And then the two youngest are fraternal twins, Makoto and Satoshi. They are by far the most energetic and out-going of the Armstrong children, if not just because of their age. If things ever get too tense around the house with the combined stress of everyone, the two of them always seem to be the ones to smooth it out whether its with the prospect of movies, or if they just help everyone find a way to relax. All of the children do their best to make their family proud in their own ways, thankfully without too much pressure from their parents. As they grew up, they remained close for the most part, except for when Raven began to explore alchemy much more than when she was a child. She had noticed an affinity for chemistry, and an understanding with how things worked. So while she grew, she did her best to try to find books on alchemy, trying things out once or twice. And she found she had a knack for it. They regarded her differently than before, and her parents handled it rather beautifully. They understood that their children may get jealous of that fact, and so they helped their kids explore other things that they had a natural talent for. Eventually things evened out, leaving her mostly relieved. And yet she grew a bit more distant to her family, even some of her friends at school. Some even turned their back on her because of it. Most didn’t seem to mind or care so she just makes sure she doesn’t make it something that’s too obvious. That, and she could tell it made some of her parents friends nervous. What shocked her the most was that her parents brought up the option of allowing her to go become a purely government alchemist instead of college. But she knew that they would really rather she pursue her education. So she did. She attended Oxford since it was right there, going through with a major that had been created to a lot for possible alchemists like herself. It was sort of a blend between chemistry and alchemy. She ended up minoring in theater too. But it was during her senior year that she… changed and came to realize some things that she needed to do for herself. She ended up joining the military after all. Initially her parents, and her siblings were shocked, but much to everyone’s surprise, it was Kabuto who piped up with, “So are you going to become a Royal Guard or something then?” It eased the mood, but it was clear that her parents were the most uncomfortable with it. She was their eldest girl, but she didn’t want to be just that anymore. She…. She had to do this. So she enlisted once she graduated, her efficiency proving her worth to all that were there. They did notice that she had alchemy, and so her post shifted to a different team that was more… involved with the war effort. It didn’t matter that her rank wasn’t that high, they could see her worth. Now she continues her research on alchemy, able to use far more resources than before considering she's a part of the military. She's also practicing more openly than before as well, but still with the proper precautions. After applying for the Royal Guard, she was accepted and even made a State Alchemist as well. She was the rare breed, and only one to fit in both categories as such. She even was put in charge of the First Royal Squad after receiving the proper training of a Royal Guard. Much to her surprise, her lordship was even willing to allow her as much time as she needed to study her alchemy. She was so used to being a soldier and not allowed time for such things often, that the fact he brought that into consideration, despite preferring alchemy being used for a more practical standpoint, was quite... enlightening.
